About the role

We are seeking dynamic Registered Nurses that are committed to the delivery of outstanding nursing care along with advancing their own professional development. The Western Health Emergency Department Discovery Program is a 6-month supported learning program designed to introduce you to the exciting and demanding field of Emergency Department nursing.

The position is temporary part-time at 64 hours per fortnight, working a rotating roster, including night shift.

We are a busy department seeing in excess of 250 presentations per day, providing care for the ever expanding outer western suburbs of Melbourne. Our exciting and highly skilled workforce provides quality care to a diverse range of high acuity patients ready to assist in your professional development.

The Emergency Department Discovery Program combines clinical experience with theoretical learning over a 6-month period. In addition, there are paid study days, a comprehensive clinical workbook and set clinical hurdles and activities to facilitate learning, along with support from a dedicated unit based education team to support your development.

Nurses who successfully complete the Discovery Program will be clinically and educationally prepared to undertake post graduate studies in affiliation with the University of Melbourne.

Essential Criteria:

  • Current registration with AHPRA to work in Australia
  • Minimum commitment of 64 hours per fortnight, working a rotating roster
  • Recent acute medical or surgical experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to own professional development
