The Organisation

Western Health comprises of three acute public hospitals: Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown Hospital. We also operate the Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s, Sunbury Day Hospital, Transition Care at Hazeldean and a range of community based services. We care for a diverse community of over 1 million people with complex care needs ranging from Neonates to Geriatrics.

The Position

Our Emergency Nurses have strong clinical understanding and the ability to collaborate effectively with an inter-professional team to ensure patients can receive the highest quality care when facing potentially life-threatening conditions. The Emergency Department at Footscray Hospital treats 35,000 adult patients annually with a high level of acuity. Construction of the New Footscray Hospital is now underway. A $1.5b investment making it the largest ever health infrastructure investment in the State.  Sunshine Hospital’s Emergency Department currently treats 65,000 patients annually. Due to the $34.9m redevelopment investment an additional $60m has been invested for its ongoing operation, the expansion has more than doubled the department’s previous capacity. The expanded Sunshine Emergency Department will feature a dedicated children's emergency triage and treatment section, the first in Victoria to do so, and a separate Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Crisis Centre.

To be successful in this role you will need:

• Must have a minimum of 12 months recent acute experience
• Proven ability to work independently with initiative, as well as collaboratively and respectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Demonstrate critical thinking abilities, prioritisation and communication skills, whilst effectively following directions
• Established commitment to continuing professional development
• Able to work a rotating roster (including night duty and weekends)
• Previous emergency department experience highly regarded
