Position Summary

Western Health is seeking applications for 2 Mental Health Educators within our Emergency Department. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a rapidly expanding health service.

The Sunshine Emergency Department has recently undergone a large expansion which includes a Behavioural Assessment Unit (BAU). There have been an increasing number of patients presenting to the Emergency Departments with Mental health issues. To empower our Emergency staff to deliver best care to these patients it is essential they have comprehensive education. These roles will involve the creation and updating of on-line learning programs, face to face education and bedside education related to the care and management of Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs within the Emergency Departments

About the Role:

  • Delivery of face to face and online education and training programs
  • Support the development of a comprehensive Mental Health and AOD education portfolio for the Division of Emergency, Medicine and Access in line with identified service needs
  • Coordination of education activities, projects/programs and or research to improve staff educational, nursing clinical practice and consumer outcomes
  • Provision of education within clinical service areas through direct application of theory to practice with staff and patients

To be successful in this role you must possess:

  • Current registration with AHPRA (Nurse)
  • Significant experience as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with expert knowledge in the field or ED experience with mental experience and/or qualifications
  • Experience in education with demonstrated evidence of developing education and training processes and understanding of adult learning principles
  • Effective organisational skills, with respect to time management and delegation
