Position Summary

The Endoscopy Liaison Nurse assists in managing the resources available to the unit, coordinating work flows, acts as a role model in setting the standards to achieve a high quality of customer service, fosters the development of cooperative professional relationships with the multidisciplinary health care team, fosters and maintains a working environment which provides professional development and job satisfaction for all staff, and provides supervision and direction to endoscopy bookings clerical staff. The successful candidate will also be prepared when required to undertake booking clerk responsibilities.

The Endoscopy Liaison Nurse will triage patients to the waitlist categories based on standardised criteria defined according to the Victorian State-wide Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy Categorisation Guidelines. Where there is uncertainty the Endoscopy Liaison Nurse will refer to the relevant medical officer for guidance. The Endoscopy Liaison Nurse will also allocate patients to appropriate endoscopy lists across campuses and seek further clinical information from referrers as required.

With acute attention to detail and a strong clinical background, the Endoscopy Liaison Nurse will be expected to lead quality improvement, quality assurance, audit and research activities as well as assist in administering any public/private partnership arrangements.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years Post Graduate acute endoscopy, gastroenterology or perioperative experience
  • High level of Endoscopy, Gastroenterology or Perioperative knowledge and skills
  • Possess advanced negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of pre-admission, admission and discharge planning principles
  • Possess sound analytical, judgment and problem solving skills
  • Effective management skills
  • Have well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to practice collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Use initiative in prioritizing workload and delegating tasks
  • Understanding of the iPM computer system (Patient management software program)
  • Demonstrated ability in the operation of various computer software packages and a willingness to learn the databases that are an integral part of patient management and the project
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality care and ensuring patient safety
