About the Role

The Western Health Cancer Services Projects Team has built a reputation of successful project development and innovation aimed at improving the journey for cancer patients in the West. The core values of the Projects Team include consumer participation co-design, collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and a positive attitude to change. 

We are looking for a professional who;

  • Has a passion for improving patient care and experience
  • Has experience in the health care sector and/or clinical trials setting, preferably in Oncology or Haematology
  • Aligns themselves with Western Health’s Best Care principles
  • Has an interest in cancer services and process improvement activities
  • Has a desire to build their leadership and management skills
  • Enjoys managing a variety of tasks at one time

This role is a temporary full-time position for 12 months initially, with opportunities for contract extension. Part time applicants will be considered if can work 0.6 EFT minimum. Salary may be negotiable based on experience. The salary ranges from $100,000-120,000, inclusive of super, dependent on experience. We are aiming to interview in early January 2020.

Duties

The Project Officer will be involved in the day-to-day running of allocated projects namely;

  • ‘Accessing Cancer Clinical Trial for People of the West’ Project which is funded by Cancer Council Victoria (CCV) and broadly aims to improve patient access to clinical trials, build linkages with other major research centres, improve the efficiency of patient identification and increase accrual for patients from culturally and linguistically diverse communities in the West, and
  • ‘PallC-ED: Palliative care in the Emergency Department’ Project which is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and aims to improve access to high quality end of life care for patients that have presented to the Footscray Hospital Emergency Department ED who are dying or have a life-limiting illness. 

The Project Officer will also work with teams to write and submit new project grants as well as manage local service improvement activities as they arise.

Skills & Experience OR Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing end evaluating projects within the healthcare setting, including completion of a project from planning phase through to implementation and sustainability phases
  • High level of administration skills including ability to effectively use Word and Excel
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with change management
  • Demonstrated time management skills and the ability to generate strategies for prioritising workloads effectively
  • Experience in consulting and collaborating with others to deliver project outcomes
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including developing project plans, outcome measures, stakeholder identification and analysis
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and assist other team members as required, and at the same time be self-directed and motivated
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills with ability to liaise and consult with a range of clinicians and stakeholders from internal and external organisations
  • Experience in engaging and liaising with patients and their families
  • High level writing skills, including project reports and funding grant submissions
  • Experience working in the acute healthcare setting
