About Us Western Health manages three acute public hospitals: Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown Hospital. Our continued growth will see the completion of a new purpose built, multi-storey Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Hospital.
The Women’s and Children’s Services at Sunshine Hospital provides quality health care within a diverse community across the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Our maternity model is woman focused and utilises a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to service provision. The service serves a diverse birthing population with over 5,600 births per year and still growing.
In addition to providing modern maternity care across the pregnancy-childbearing continuum, the service provides pregnancy outpatient and specialist diagnostic services. This includes a maternal fetal medicine and pregnancy day-stay unit. Sunshine Hospital has 24 bed high dependencies Level II nursery with Neonatology and Specialist Paediatric services.
About the Role
A unique opportunity to lead, develop and manage the new Maternity Assessment Centre as the Midwifery Unit Manager.
Maternity Assessment Centre will see the implementation of a Maternity Triage Model, redesign of Pregnancy Care Centre – a short stay maternity assessment and induction of labour area, and Pregnancy Day Stay Unit - an ambulatory / short stay maternal and fetal assessment unit.
Transition to the new JKWCH Maternity Assessment Centre will include:
- Six Fetal Monitoring cubicles
- Four recliner chairs
- Five assessment rooms
- Four Short Stay rooms
With opportunities for growth and development with a capacity for:
- Seven Fetal Monitoring cubicles (bed bays)
- Four recliner chair bays
- Three Consultation Rooms, one with an ensuite
- Five Assessment/consult rooms, one with an ensuite
- Eight Short Stay rooms with ensuite
The redesign of the Maternity Model of Care to support an embedded team model, in line with transition to JKWCH, will be inclusive of designated line management responsibility for a dedicated midwifery workforce working in partnership with a key medical lead and the multidisciplinary team in the provision of evidence based maternity care
