About the Role
Full-time, temporary position, until 30th May 2021
The Specialist Pharmacotherapy Services (SPS) sits within the Specialist Services suite of programmes at Drug Health Services, Western Health and delivers care to metropolitan and regional alcohol and other drug (AOD) users, their families, friends, carers, and the wider community.
The target client group is characterised by people with multiple and complex co-morbidities, requiring a skilled and sensitive approach to engagement and whose needs cannot be met solely by their regular community pharmacotherapy prescriber. These include clients with:
- unstable psychiatric conditions, including psychosis, depression and personality disorders
- high-risk patterns of substance abuse including significant alcohol, methamphetamine and poly drug use
- challenging behaviours unable to be managed in other community settings
- chronic pain disorders who are abusing licit and illicit opioids
- pregnancy and substance abuse issues
- medical conditions such as HIV and hepatitis C.
The SPS also provide a consultative service to staff at Drug Health Services , Western Health including the broader AOD service sector on opinion about management of clients with complex issues related to Opiate Replacement Therapy (ORT).
To be Successful in this Role you
- will provide specialist assessment, treatment and stabilisation for people receiving opiate replacement therapy who have complex medical, psychiatric or psychosocial problems
- will support clients accessing/stabilising/maintaining opiate replacemnet therapy in the community
- will provide case management and counselling support to clients on ORT
- will liase with community GP’s and pharmacists to monitor client engagement
- will collaborate with Addiction Consultants, Registrars and Nurse Practitioners related to ORT
- will be involved in Clinical Research trial related to opioid treatment.
