About the Role

An exciting opportunity awaits an eager and energetic EN to join our busy hard working perioperative team as the Holding Bay Nurse.

The holding bay nurse is responsible for the admission and care of patients that are brought to the operating theatre preoperatively and is an integral part of the perioperative team. This position is full time – 0730-1700 hours four days per week and involves the care of obstetric, paediatric, general surgery, gynaecology, ENT, plastics, orthopaedics and ophthalmology patients. This is a highly desirable position within the perioperative area and an ideal opportunity for an EN to expand their professional experience.

Duties

The role of the holding bay nurse is to provide information and emotional support for patients and their family members whilst waiting for theatre. The holding bay nurse must ensure that all preoperative data has been documented, maintain the patient’s baseline hemodynamic status and coordinate all elective and emergency patients arriving for surgery in a fast paced environment.

Skills and experience / essential criteria:

  • Minimum 2 years post qualification experience – essential
  • Basic – Intermediate computer skills essential
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Excellent clinical assessment skills
