About the Role

Full time and part time positions available

An exciting opportunity exists at Sunshine Hospital; we are looking for midwives to join the maternity @ home team.  In this role you will work with a high level of autonomy; providing postnatal care in the home to women, babies and families.

Duties

Midwives in the maternity @ home service work independently throughout the day, providing holistic services which include clinical assessment, support, education and midwifery care to women and their babies during the postnatal period.  During the course of the visit the midwife will provide clinical care as required which includes, but is not limited to, the following.

  • Head to toe assessment of mother and baby, including jaundice assessment;
  • Breastfeeding education and support;
  • Newborn screening test;
  • Maternal wound care;
  • Safe sleeping/falls advice;
  • Parenting education and support;
  • Post birth debriefing;
  • Clinical assessment and care to promote the physical and psychological health and wellbeing of the mother and baby; and
  • If clinically indicated, performing neonatal blood sampling e.g. SBR
  • Assessment of need to refer to support services.

Skills & Experience

  • Enthusiasm to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary care model
  • Experience across the continuum of childbirth
  • Great communication skills
  • A commitment to high quality, safe and person centred patient care
  • Newborn examination competency or working towards completion within three months

Essential Criteria

  • Registration as Midwife with AHPRA
  • 12 months post-graduation as a Registered Midwife
