About the Role

This position is seeking a senior Clinical Haematologist to attend one outpatient clinic, perform one month of ward service consultant duties, and to oversee the maintenance of the blood cancer disease registries.


The position will involve conducting consultant ward rounds during ward service periods. It would be expected that the consultant will supervise advanced trainees, work with nursing and other ward staff and take responsibility for providing safe, high quality care. A particular focus will be to ensure discharge planning in order to reduce delays to patient discharge.

In addition, they will be required to assist the Oncology Research Staff in ensuring enrolment of eligible patients on the Lymphoma, Myeloma and TTP patient registries. Finally, this role will provide educational support for physician trainees including involvement in practice exams, acting as an educational supervisor.

Skills & Experience OR Essential Criteria

  • Medical qualification
  • FRACP or equivalent and specialist recognition as an Oncologist/Haematologist
  • Current Australian medical registration
  • Credentials for the position
  • Relevant clinical experience and clinical competence required for level of position
  • Experience in the support and supervision of Junior Medical Staff
  • Demonstrated ability to practice collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team
  • Effective organisational skills, with respect to time management and delegation
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Displays and expresses a high level of ethics in regards to patients, colleagues and the organisation
  • Demonstrates skill and maturity in problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrates ability to make decisions and support rationale, clearly communicate decisions to relevant parties
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, institutional and employee information
