Position Summary

We are offering a Permanent Full Time sleep scientist Grade 1 or Grade 2 position (80 hours per fortnight), for an experienced and motivated sleep scientist.

You will possess advanced technical expertise, and actively contribute to the day to day clinical activities in the Sleep Disorders Unit. The position on a rotating roster (Day/Evening/Night shifts), will involve patient preparation prior to overnight sleep studies, overnight study monitoring involving routine diagnostic PSG, CPAP titrations and implementations, oxygen titration, MSLT/MWT studies, transcutaneous CO2 monitoring and complex ventilation studies. It will also involve aspects of sleep study analysis. This position reports to Manager Medical Specialty Diagnostics (Sleep, Respiratory and Neurophysiology).

The Sleep Disorders Unit at Footscray Hospital is NATA Accredited, and performs a variety of in-laboratory and home based PSG and treatment studies. The Unit performs approximately 2,000 sleep studies per annum and these include both laboratory based and portable studies at home. The sleep laboratory performs diagnostic, treatment (CPAP/Bi Pap/Oxygen) and split studies with TCO2 monitoring if required. The unit also provides support to patients with CPAP clinics, APAP trials and light therapy devices.

Whilst this position maintains a strong clinical focus, the Grade 1 / Grade 2 scientist will also support quality system activities in line with NATA/ASA Accreditation Standards, be involved in specific set of delegated portfolios, attend and participate in regular in-service meetings, journal club, sleep discussions and research meetings. The Grade 1 /Grade 2 sleep Scientist will be expected to demonstrate an analytical approach to troubleshooting and be highly organised.

 

To be Successful in this Role you

  • Have leadership capacity and act as a role model for Grade 1 scientists (Based on experience)
  • Have significant clinical experience in sleep disorders testing
  • Need to maintain the highest skill set in terms of complex and specialised testing procedures.
  • Have well developed interpersonal skills, including effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Will support the operational needs of the scientific units, by performing a variety of shifts (covering days, evenings, nights) as per roster
