About the Role

The Geriatric Medicine program at Western Health provides acute and sub-acute care across 4 campuses (Footscray, Sunshine, Williamstown and Werribee). Community assessments are provided in conjunction with the Western Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS), the Immediate Response Service (IRS) and in rural Victoria. A range of clinics are available including: Movement Disorders, Falls and Mobility, Falls and Fractures, Wound, Urodynamics and CDAMS (memory clinic).

Western Health has 12 accredited advanced trainee positions in 2019 including 1 Fellow and 11 Registrars (please note the Fellow position is not available for 1st and 2nd year trainees). The Registrar positions include:

  • Acute Aged Care
  • Orthogeriatrics
  • Geriatric Evaluation and Management
  • Dementia Management Unit
  • Transition Care Program (TCP)
  • Psychogeriatrics
  • Rural/Community assessments
  • Specialty clinics
  • Hospital consultative service
  • Community clinic / Community assessments and managements with IRS and ACLS service
  • Job sharing and part time positions may be available

In 2019, it will be possible for registrars to rotate for 1 x 4 month rotation to either Barwon Health or Melbourne Health. This will be optional, and applicants are requested to indicate in their cover letter whether they would like to participate in such a rotation.

All accredited training sites in Victoria are participating in a centralised match run by the RACP, therefore applicants need to apply to both Western Health and the RACP Advanced Trainee Matching Service (ATMS).

Please note that the closing dates for applications to Western Health are different from the RACP closing dates. There is a 2 stage matching process and there will be 2 application reference numbers that apply to:

Group 1 (not applicable for 1st year trainees):

First round match for continuing advanced trainees, that is, already in an RACP advanced  training program in Geriatric Medicine or another specialty.  This group also includes those applicants wanting to apply for the Fellow position for 2019.

Closing date: Sunday 8th July 2018

Group 2:

Second round match for new advanced trainees (1st year advanced trainees in 2019) and those unmatched in the first round.

Closing date: Sunday 19th August 2018

The positions are for 12 months commencing 4h February 2019 and continuing through until 2nd February 2020.

Applicants applying in Group 1 - (the first round match for continuing advanced trainees) must already be in an RACP training program - in Geriatrics or other speciality.
