Position Summary

Clinical Nurse Educator AOD - Emergency Department (Western Health) 

Western Health is seeking applications for an Alcohol and other Drugs educator to assist in the delivery of a transition to mental health practice program in the Emergency Department. If you are an AOD nurse who would like to share your knowledge with ED nurses this could be the role for you. This is an opportunity to share your knowledge and skills in the development of our ED staff. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a rapidly expanding health service.

The Sunshine Emergency Department has recently undergone a large expansion which will include a Behavioural Assessment Unit (BAU).  This role will involve the creation and updating of on-line learning programs, face to face education and bedside education related to the care and management of  patients with AOD issues within the Emergency Departments

About the Role:

  • Delivery of face to face and online education and training programs for the transition to practice program
  • Support the development of a comprehensive AOD education portfolio for the Division of Emergency, Medicine and Access in line with identified service needs for the transition to mental health practice program

To be successful in this role you must possess:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Nursing qualification or equivalent, which leads to registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia
  • Minimum of five years post registration experience in AOD nursing
  • Knowledge of current clinical issues & challenges in relevant specialist area Commitment to continuing professional development in AOD and allied areas, and ability to foster this commitment in others
  • Ability to both deliver and to advocate for high quality care to patients with AOD problems
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously in the role 
  • Possess highly developed interpersonal skills including conflict resolution strategies
  • Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary, nursing and education team
  • Possess knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and human resource procedures
  • Be innovative, resourceful and adaptable to change
  • Proficient in the use and possess the ability to trouble-shoot ICT systems
