About the Role

These fixed term Full or Part Time positions offer a unique opportunity to be part of a team of 22 FTE Consultants. Rotations are spread across two campuses (Sunshine and Footscray – both located within 20 minutes of the CBD) which are accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for Advanced Training. Sunshine Emergency Department currently sees approximately 80,000 patients per year and includes paediatric cases, whilst Footscray Emergency Department sees approximately 30,000 adults per year. Both Sunshine and Footscray hospitals have an ICU and cath lab on site.

With the construction of the Joan Kirner Women’s & Children’s hospital at Sunshine well underway Western health is ideally placed to expand to meet the growing healthcare needs of Melbourne’s west.

One of the busiest in the state, the Women’s & Children’s service (based at Sunshine) provides ample opportunity for both learning and for fulfilling ACEM paediatric logbook requirements. External rotations to Intensive Care, Anaesthetics, Addiction Medicine, Simulation Medicine and Trauma amongst others can be arranged depending on availability.

There is active on the floor Consultant leadership, supervision and education from 0800hrs – 2400hrs, seven days a week. There is also five hours each week of protected teaching time which includes scheduled teaching sessions, rostered time for WBA completion and programs for Primary and Fellowship Exams with excellent success rates.

  • Australian Trained Medical Graduates: General Registration with AHPRA and completed a minimum of 3 years Full Time medical employment post MBBS graduation
  • International Medical Graduates: Limited/General Registration with AHPRA and completed a minimum of 2 years Full Time medical employment in Australia (desirable). Must have passed AMC MCQ Part 1 and achieved a ranking of 7 or above in IELTs (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
