About the Role

An opportunity exists for a patient liaison officer (PLO) to join the existing PLO team in Revenue Services – Finance at Western Health.  The position is fulltime, Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00am-6.30pm, located at the Sunshine Hospital. This position requires the staff member to be available to cover leave arrangements at the Footscray hospital should this be required.

Duties

Communicating with patients, family, carers and hospital staff, the primary role of the PLO is to determine the correct patient classification (including Medicare ineligible patients), obtain patient information such as patient health insurance fund details and promote patients to use their private health insurance. In addition, the PLO role will be responsible for the revenue recovery of Medicare Ineligible patients; this role actively promotes patients to pay upfront for their hospital journey in a timely manner in order to satisfy revenue department requirements.   This position contributes significantly to increasing revenue for the organisation. 

Skills & Experience

The successful applicant will have demonstrated ability to perform in a high volume, fast paced demanding environment with proven capacity to show initiative, problem solve and prioritise, as well as demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail, as well as:

  • Outcome driven with strong ability to formulate strategies to address arising issues.
  • Demonstrated self- motivator and excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently in a proactive manner. Also, an effective team player with the capacity to be flexible, making a positive contribution to the team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and sound negotiation skills, with the capacity to successfully relate to a culturally diverse patient cohort.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient service.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict of resources and hospital priorities.
  • Computer literacy and ability to adapt to new software applications as required and assist with the delivery of outcomes for monthly reporting.
