About the Role

Role of the welfare worker will be working in a small team consists of Registered Nurse and Program Coordinator. The role includes provision of case management, counselling, withdrawal support and the facilitation of admissions and discharge planning of clients in both adult and youth residential withdrawal units. The welfare worker operates across all hours of the service operation i.e. 24/24 rotating roster.

Duties

  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive psychosocial program which addresses problematic substance and poor mental health and subsequent complexity of issues; and coordinate and support colleagues to deliver this program also
  • Build effective relationships with the client’s family and significant others, relevant self-help and mutual aid groups, and other health and welfare services to support and enhance positive outcomes for clients.
  • Provide information, skilled therapeutic brief interventions and psycho education program to clients admitted in the Dual diagnosis rehabilitation centre.
  • Contribute to the further development and/or implementation of individual treatment plans.
  • Review and adjust individual treatment plans (ITP’s) to support consumers to achieve treatment goals
  • Contribute to MDT meetings and communicate any issues/concerns/successes regarding clients presentation and participation in the program
  • With other clinicians who also deliver the therapeutic program, complete Optional Assessment Modules where this additional Assessment information will assist with the further development of treatment plans and treatment objectives whilst in the centre

Skills & Experience OR Essential Criteria

  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline (welfare, social work, community development or equivalent).
  • Minimum qualifications to Certificate IV level in drug and alcohol, or willingness to work towards the same or equivalent
  • Current “Working With Children Check”
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage and problem solve in crisis situations
  • Basic computer literacy skills
