About the Role

Women's & Children's Services provides ambulatory services across a number of sites within the western catchment, predominantly at Sunshine, but also at Sunbury and within the community. The service collaborates across a number of divisions within Western Health and partners with external health services and community services to ensure Best Care. 
The Antenatal Clinic provides quality maternity care for over 5,500 women per year from diverse multicultural backgrounds from communities across the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. The clinic is staffed by a multidisciplinary team who work collaboratively to provide holistic antenatal care to women.

This position presents the successful applicant the possible opportunity to transition into our broader Maternity Services to deliver care across the maternity continuum. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as we transition our services into the new purpose built Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Hospital.

The position will suit a professional, motivated, experienced and enthusiastic midwife to join our Antenatal Clinic Team at Western Health (Sunshine Hospital) on a temporary part time basis.

You will work with a high level of autonomy and responsibility across the maternity continuum from antenatal bookings through to birth and home-based postnatal visits, with further opportunities to participate in day-stay pregnancy monitoring, specialist clinics and lactation support

Our ideal candidates will have:

  • Registration as Midwife with AHPRA
  • Enthusiasm to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary care model
  • Previous Antenatal Clinic Experience 
  • Experience across all areas of midwifery care
  • Great communication skills
  • Most importantly, a commitment to high quality, safe and person centred patient care

Our Organisation

The Joan Kirner Women's and Children's (JKWC) service will include 20 labour delivery rooms, brand new NICU cots, 39 SCN cots, 64 women’s inpatient beds, 32 children’s inpatient beds, 4 operating theatres, 4 beautiful birth pools and additional outpatient clinics. There are opportunities to work part time, full time or casually across the full scope of practice. In addition we offer support to develop clinical knowledge and skills or undertake research with key academic partners.

Selection Criteria Essential: Successful completion of Bachelor of Midwifery qualification or equivelant
Essential: Registration as a Registered Midwife in AHPRA
Essential: Minimum of one year's full-time or equivalent experience as a Registered Midwife
Essential: Possess excellent clinical knowledge and skills
Desirable: Previous experience in the delivery of antenatal care
Desirable: Membership of appropriate professional organization
Desirable: Skills and experience to work across the scope of midwifery practice
