Advanced Trainee/Senior Registrar in General and Acute Care Medicine – Western Health, Melbourne

About the Role

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Medical Officers who have:

  • passed the FRACP written and clinical examinations, or
  • completed basic physician training and plan to sit these examinations in 2019, or
  • have substantial experience in adult medical inpatient management
  • who would like to pursue Advanced or further training in General and Acute Care Medicine.

Western Health offers a comprehensive training program in General and Acute Care Medicine including for those undertaking dual training in association with another subspecialty. There are rotations for Core General Medicine plus a range of rotations in other subspecialties.

The General Internal Medicine Unit operates across the two campuses - Footscray and Sunshine Hospitals. Both hospitals have four inpatient General Internal Medicine inpatient teams and admit over 3,000 patients each a year.

The Chief Medical Registrar is based at Footscray Hospital and has one general medicine outpatient clinic a week. There is also a Senior Medical Registrar based at Sunshine Hospital which has a formal relationship with the Obstetric Medicine Service. The Chief Medical and Senior Medical Registrars work closely with the Head of Unit for General Internal Medicine to ensure an efficient and high quality service and to supervise and support resident medical staff.   • Senior Medical Registrar – Sunshine Hospital General Internal Medicine
  • Neurology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Respiratory Medicine
  • Intensive Care Unit
  • Hospital in the Home
  • St John Of God (Ballarat)
  • Western Private (Footscray)

The General Internal Medicine Unit is closely associated with the University of Melbourne, Western Clinical School and has an active research program and consultants with experience in supporting productive advanced training projects. There are also opportunities for future higher degree research training projects/PhD.
