About the Role

An exciting opportunity currently exists within the Palliative Care Consultancy team on a permanent part time basis

The Palliative Care Consultancy Service is dedicated to providing optimal outcomes for people with incurable disease including the terminally ill and their significant others in accordance with best practice principles in Palliative Care. The Palliative Care Consultancy Service sees an average of 120 inpatients per month across Footscray and Sunshine Hospital.  The Service has developed collaborative working relationships with many departments including the interface between community and acute/sub acute settings within Western Health and has a unique relationship with the local community palliative care provider.


The Clinical Nurse Consultant demonstrates clinical expertise together with highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills to assist with the achievement of patient-centered goals fostering and developing relationships with the community palliative care services.

As a member of the specialist team, the CNC will provide expert and evidence based direction to ensure service standards and practices related to their area of expertise are maintained and improved across all services of Western Health.

Skills & Experience OR Essential Criteria

  • Registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia
    • Experience working in a senior clinical role (CNS or above).
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrated negotiation, problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse and complex professional workforce.
    • Demonstrated ability to consult and collaborate with others and work as an effective member of a team to deliver organisational outcomes.
    • Proficient in Microsoft applications.
    • Flexibility in working hours to provide leave cover as negotiated.
    • Current Victorian driver’s license.
  • Possess excellent clinical skills
  • Proven ability to organise resources
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise reports, policies and procedures
  • Basic computer literacy skills
  • Be innovative, resourceful and adaptable to change
