About the Role

The Medical Imaging Department aims to provide excellence in diagnostic and interventional imaging services including education, training and development to the staff and patients of Western Health. The Medical Imaging Department operates Monday–Friday 0830-1700 hours and provides emergency imaging services 24/7. The Department consists of many disciplines including the dedicated nursing and ancillary staff comprising the radiographers, clerical staff, clinical assistants, Radiology Registrars and Radiologists.

A temporary 4 month position (64 hours per fortnight) is available in Medical Imaging; the successful applicant should have a keen interest in Radiology nursing or desire to learn. Prior experience in Medical Imaging, Day Procedure Unit or Theatre/Recovery is highly desirable. On the job training will be provided. The Successful candidate will work in an Imaging/Radiation environment and Full PPE and radiation safety training will be provided.

Medical Imaging provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic services including:

  • CT
  • X-Ray
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Angiography
  • Ultrasound
  • Mammography
  • MRI
  • Nuclear Medicine


  • Provide a high standard of nursing care for patients who are undergoing diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Adhere to the OH&S and radiation safety policies pertaining to Medical Imaging.
  • Work using sterile fields and aseptic technique for perioperative procedures.
  • General nursing and perioperative procedural work in various modalities.
  • Recovery nursing and observation of patients post procedure.
  • Admission and Discharge planning.
  • MRI nursing and ability to work in a Magnetic field environment.
  • Medication administration and administration of Radiological Contrast Media.
  • Nurse/patient escorts
  • Full Documentation of interventional procedures
  • Procedural sedation and recovery
  • Maintain strict Asceptic technic for Interventional radiology procedures.
  • Management of deteriorating patients.

Essential Criteria

Prior experience in Medical Imaging, Day Procedure Unit or Theatre/Recovery is highly desirable.
