We have more than 6,700 employees who are driven by our values of ‘Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Safety’ (CARES).

Our continued growth will see the completion of a new purpose built, multi-storey Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Hospital.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an appropriately skilled obstetrician or senior registrar (Level 6 equivalent)  to join the dynamic multidisciplinary Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit at Sunshine Hospital.

The MFM unit provides maternity care for the most complex patients including the full range of fetal and maternal medical disorders. This full time position will provide inpatient and outpatient services within the unit. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to combine ultrasound scanning with patient consultation in a range of different high risk settings including multiple pregnancies, cervical surveillance, fetal medicine, maternal medicine and postnatal and pre-pregnancy counselling. The unit is supported by an established Genetics and Fetal cardiology service. A Level 5 nursery supported by full time neonatologists is on site. The Sunshine Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit actively participates in a range of national and international multicentred trials and has ample research opportunities to support the training and career ambitions of an MFM fellow. Although not formally accredited as an MFM training site, prospective approval for CMFM training with RANZCOG may be available to suitable applicants. This unique opportunity will provide the successful applicant(s) with an opportunity to see for themselves why Sunshine Hospital and the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit are rapidly heading towards being the fourth tertiary maternity service in Victoria.

“It is the vision of the Women’s and Children’s Division of Western Health to become the best training centre for obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia”.

The 2015 RANZCOG Accreditation report contained the following summary about Obstetrics and Gynaecology training at Western Health:

Outstanding collaborative clinical leadership provided by the Clinical Services Director, the Head of Unit (Gynaecology), the Acting Head of Obstetrics, and the MFM Subspecialist. The hospital management is also commended for their vision and support in developing the unit.

Exceptionally committed and supportive consultant team – both at day-to-day ground level and in terms of their philosophy of training/education.

Good exposure across the subspecialties – MFM, gynaecological oncology and urogynaecology.

Commendable examination preparation program provided by one of the Training Supervisors, resulting in excellent examination performances by trainees at this site, including a recent Gold Medal.

Overall, a well-organised, balanced and rounded unit which exhibits strong esprit de corps and consistently high morale.
