Position Summary

Our Midwifery Services at Western Health are seeking highly skilled and motivated Registered Midwives to join our team at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital (JKWCH). JKWCH provides a range of services to both women and children including labour delivery birthing rooms, specialist neonatal care and operating theatres, consisting of inpatient and outpatient services. JKWC is located at our Sunshine site and is currently offering the following exciting opportunities.

 

The below selection criteria applies to all vacancies listed:

  • Successful completion of Bachelor of Nursing / Midwifery qualification or equivalent
  • Current registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA
  • Possess excellent clinical skills
  • Effective organisational skills, with respect to time management and delegation
  • Well-developed written and verbal skills
  • Excellent and effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to practice collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team
  • Demonstrated evidence of undertaking professional development activities to maintain and enhance nursing / midwifery expertise

Registered Midwife – Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit
Sunshine

Permanent Part Time

An exciting opportunity exists for a midwife join the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) team in the new Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s MFM Unit at Sunshine Hospital.  The hospital now provides a comprehensive MFM service, with clinics in Fetal Medicine, Fetal Cardiology, Preterm Labour Surveillance, Multiple Pregnancy, Recurrent Miscarriage, Pre-pregnancy Counselling and Pregnancy loss.

MFM supports the hospital's antenatal clinics by providing Maternal and Fetal Surveillance for Complex pregnancies. The successful candidates should have a special interest in complex pregnancies and be sensitive to the needs of women attending our service.

The role of the MFM midwife, working within a multidisciplinary team incorporates the following activities: unsupervised clinical practice, coordination of care, counselling, health promotion and teaching, patient advocacy, collaborative patient and unit management, research/ data collection, interaction/liaison with multidisciplinary team, clinic preparation, assisting clinical procedures and accurate & timely documentation.

This position presents the successful applicant the possible opportunity to transition into our broader Maternity Services to deliver care across the maternity continuum. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as we transition our services into the new purpose built Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Hospital.

To be successful for this role you will have:

  • Liaison with external providers
  • RANZCOG FSEP Level 3
  • strong time management & prioritisation skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 year’s full-time or equivalent experience as a Registered Midwife
  • Previous Antenatal Clinic Experience 
  • Experience across all areas of midwifery care
  • Most importantly, a commitment to high quality, safe and person centred patient care
  • Enthusiasm to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary care model

Our Organisation

The Joan Kirner Women's and Children's (JKWC) service will include 20 labour delivery rooms, brand new NICU cots, 39 SCN cots, 64 women’s inpatient beds, 32 children’s inpatient beds, 4 operating theatres, 4 beautiful birth pools and additional outpatient clinics. There are opportunities to work part time, full time or casually across the full scope of practice. In addition we offer support to develop clinical knowledge and skills or undertake research with key academic partners.
