About the Role
The implementation of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is Western Health’s next step towards significantly improving and transforming the way we provide care for our community and patients. Western Health’s EMR will provide clinicians with a consolidated view of all relevant information about the patient to facilitate teamwork reduce medical errors and support clinical decision making. It will also simplify and support clinician workflow, and provide access to best practice knowledge, empowering our clinicians with the tools to enhance the delivery of Best Care.
Phase one of Western Health’s 7 - 10 year EMR journey will deliver:
- structured clinical notes,
- medications prescribing and administration,
- pathology and radiology orders and results; and
- A supporting core system.

Duties
The EMR Technical Manager is responsible for designing the solution structure and architecture to address how the overall EMR solution will fit within the existing ICT application and infrastructure stack and implementing the Western Health technical components to ensure a successful Western Health EMR Project. The technical component includes, but is not limited to, systems integration (HL7), Cerner Millennium functional and technical support, biomedical device integration, Cerner printing, downtime viewers, application security, location hierarchy design, user role design and user provisioning, clinical reporting, data migration, and the management of event set hierarchy and documentation types. It is important for this role to understand all aspects of the clinical systems running within an acute hospital both from a business and technical point of view.
The EMR Technical Manager will be required to work with WH staff, Executives, Clinical leaders, DHHS and Cerner in conjunction with external providers who are accountable for the technical delivery of EMR services the EMR project team at WH.
There is an expectation that this role will transition into a permanent role within the EMR support team once the EMR project has gone live.
