Applications are invited from suitably qualified, third year graduates or beyond to join our team of Basic Physician Trainees at Western Health. Applicants must have at least two (2) years of Australian Hospital experience beyond their Internship and must possess a broad range of knowledge and past rotations within General Internal Medicine and other medical sub-speciality units to be at this level of training (ie. BPT3 level).
All basic physician training in Victoria is provided through a Consortia comprised of metropolitan and rural hospitals.
Western Health is part of the Greater Western Basic Physician Training Consortium, which includes rotations across Western Health, Melbourne Health (The Royal Melbourne Hospital), Ballarat Health Services, Albury Wodonga Health (Albury Campus) and Northeast Health Wangaratta.
Western Health offers a diversity of clinical experience through its three campuses involved in basic physician training. Footscray and Sunshine Hospitals are tertiary referral centres with a professorial department of medicine, whilst Williamstown Hospital is smaller and community based.
The Greater Western Basic Physician Training Consortium offers a comprehensive program with all rotations accredited by the RACP and is focused on optimising preparation for the written and clinical parts of the FRACP examination.
BPT Training Activities at Western Health include:
- Weekly grand round and professorial report;
- Daily education sessions in addition to regular within-unit education sessions for access by all trainees;
- Structured pre written tutorial/MCQ sessions;
- Short and long case tutorials and mock FRACP examinations in the months preceding the written and clinical exams;
- Professional Development programs for both junior doctors and registrars; and
- Access to research opportunities with a dedicated Academic Research facility.
