Position Summary

An exciting opportunity to gain a permanent part-time/full-time position as an Associate Midwife Unit Manager here at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s, Western Health.  The role will have the ability to either work across all areas of the Midwifery continuum – Birthing, Maternity Assessment Centre and Maternity Wards. We also have a temporary 1 year Core AMUM position in Birthing and Maternity Assessment Centre.

 As Associate Midwife Unit Manager, you will demonstrate expert knowledge and skills while assuming a prominent management focus within the unit, while contributing to the decisions that help shape our health service.  The role is an integral member of the management team, and will assist the Midwife Unit Manager in the course of their duties to ensure provision of both nursing and midwifery care that is excellent in quality and consistently patient centred, while achieving effective operational management of the clinical environment.

We are seeking dedicated, motivated Associate Midwife Unit Managers with outstanding clinical experience and knowledge, effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated willingness to develop and maintain their own knowledge in order to contribute to the development, and maintenance of the Maternity Service.

To be Successful in this Role you will

  • Manage the area as Midwife in Charge on a shift by shift basis
  • Have a high level of accountability and responsibility for the Unit and staff
  • Demonstrate clinical leadership skills
  • Prioritise collaborative care and communication within the multidisciplinary framework
  • Promote ongoing learning and education for all staff in the Unit
  • Be a Level 3 practitioner in RANZCOG Fetal Surveillance Education Program
  • Be proficient in IV Cannulation
  • Be working towards or have completed perineal suturing, and discharge examination of the Healthy Term Newborn.
