Registered Midwife – Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) Sunshine Permanent Part Time –Full Time
Due to popular demand the Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Midwifery Group Practice is expanding. We are seeking Skilled, passionate, caring and highly motivated Registered Midwives to join the team in providing continuity of care to birthing women and families.
About the role: Western Health have a well-established Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) caring for almost 15% of birthing families at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s.
The MGP midwife works as a primary carer for a defined number of women per year in an on-call capacity. In this role the midwife provides antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care for women and their families- focusing on the individual needs of each mother/baby duo. This therapeutic relationship is person-centred and based upon mutual respect, partnership, and trust. Continuity of care fosters the best opportunities for education, empowerment, escalation and advocacy to ensure a safe and holistic experience for each birthing person. A midwife in MGP has a set roster comprising of periods of 24 hour ‘on-call’ components and clear days off according to EFT contracted.
Having been historically an all-risk model requiring a full-time commitment we are now offering an array of options to ensure work life balance is met for your personal circumstances. Part time EFT at either 0.75 or 0.5, full time, all risk team, low-risk only team, permanent and temporary positions available.
Further prospects within MGP employment include participation in the provision of homebirth (a service unique to Joan Kirner and now in its 11th year of operation) to low-risk pregnant persons who meet the required criteria. Additionally, Western Health are proud to provide dedicated, culturally safe care for our first nation’s people through our Gallinjera MGP team.
We are looking for midwives who are passionate, organised and have exceptional communication and advanced clinical skills (IV cannulation, Newborn Exam and Perineal Suturing at least underway). Previous experience an advantage but not required.

The Antenatal Specialist Clinic at Joan Kirner & Children’s hospital is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, caring and highly motivated Registered Midwife or Registered Nurse to join the team.
About the Role: As a Registered Midwife / Registered Nurse in the Antenatal Specialist Clinic you will be wording with in a multidisciplinary specialist clinic that incorporates the following activities:
- Unsupervised Clinical Practice - Coordination of care - Triaging of referrals - Counselling - Health promotion and teaching - Patient advocacy - Collaborative patient and unit management research - Supervision and mentorship/preceptorship - Interaction /liaison with multidisciplinary team - Accurate and timely documentation
To be successful you will have:
- Successful completion of Bachelor of Nursing / Midwifery qualification or equivalent
- Current registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA
- Minimum 3 years full-time or equivalent experience as a Registered Midwife / Nurse
- Possess excellent clinical skills
- Effective organisational skills, with respect to time management and delegation
- Well-developed written and verbal skills
